UMI & Co. Vintage and Crabbie's Alchololic Ginger Beer provided the second instalment Grand Vintage Ball & Vintage Attire Pageant at the Rivoli Ballroom on Saturday May 8 May.
Vintage purists mixed with dressed-up dabblers for an evening of retro fun and frolics, offering a welcome respite from an otherwise serious week for our United Kingdom.
Retro revellers danced the night away to music from the 20’s to the 80’s and entered the Vintage Attire Pageant for their chance to be crowned Best In Show. The Greta Garbo inspired young lady was a real contender for the vintage crown, but was pipped to the post by a dapper English gent and a curvaceous Rockabilly Queen.
The Brockley Ukulele Group, refreshed retro favourites including Rawhide, Love Shack and Coolio's Gangster’s Paradise , whilst Jonny Demonique infamous tattoo shack offered nautical inspired works of art and Miss Amy Gwatkin’s legendary vintage photo booth captured the nights most gorgeous revellers.
Alex Adams, from Deptford who won the best outfit category said: I’ve had a fantastic night!
I’ve had this polka dot frock for ages, but never have an occasion to wear it. I’ve got quite a few vintage outfits in my wardrobe so I’ll be back to defend my title at the next vintage ball!
No matter what the ballots say we are comforted to know that our fine shores will survive just fine with such an emboldened celebration of all that is great and good from bygone days.
Blue? Red? Yellow? Hang the future we say! For now our vote will always be vintage gold!

WE LOVE THE BROCKLEY UKULELE GROUP!
For those of you who don't know, the Brockley Ukulele is a refuge for closet ukulele players in Brockley and the surrounding area.
They're currently running tings on the uke-cover, comedy-folk suburban-core music scene of London. They meet, jam and perform regularly with an ever-changing line-up and an ever-increasing repertoire, so you'll never see the same set twice!
See them live at the Grand Vintage Ball this Saturday. My favourites: Rawhide and Daft Punk's Stronger - amazing!

Dear Darlings, Dare-doers and dastardly Dukes and Duchesses of fashion,
End of the month pre-pay day blues? Me too, t’is ruddy rubbish.Fear not Sweethearts and fellow slaves to the wage, help is at hand!
If you venture to London’s quaint Greenwich Village, and pop in to The Beehive on Creek Road you can get your Early Bird tickets for the not so princely sum of £10! Just say the magic words/ quote the reference ‘Grace Kelly’.
To be clear this offer will not be available on the door or online. Honesty is the best policy you know. Failing that, why not trot down to this Sunday’s ‘My Vintage Affair – a vintage fair’ at Oliver’s Bar in Greenwich from 12 and get your hands on your early bird tickets while picking up the perfect outfit for the ball. Two birds, one fabulous outfit and all that.
Now that's put a cherry on your ice cream sundae… talking of which, not to brag but one of our fabulous Dj’s, designer extraordinaire Julian J Smith designs were featured not once but *twice* in last week’s Grazia! And if that wasn’t enough to wet our whistle, this week, the ever alluring Jonny Demonique could be seen in action in this month’s Bizarre magazine!
To experience the pleasures of the flesh that Mister Smith and Mister Demonique provided under one roof, without the media involvment, you know what you need to do…
Looking forward to seeing you there, looking decidedly unsquare.
Cheerio! x
