LONDON'S FIRST EVER GRAND VINTAGE BALL & VINTAGE ATTIRE PAGEANT

An evening of where fascinators, fancy frocks and fabulous cabaret stole the show...
Furs, frocks and all manner of vintage fripperies flounced to the music of several decades at the first ever Grand Vintage at the Rivoli Ballroom on Saturday 26 September.
1950's jivers sized up glam 70's disco queens and 80's retrosexuals at the ball offering fine London folk an opportunity to don their best vintage and retro outfits.
Contestants in the Vintage Attire Pageant competed fiercely for the first prize of a bottle of Babycham and quality satin rosette. Categories included, Dictators wife, Retrosexual, and most dapper gentleman.

Tunes from Buddy Holly, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Whitney Houston and Erasure encouraged revellers of all ages throw serious shapes on the dancefloor.Disc jockeys on the night included designer extraordinaire Julian Smith and femme fetales the She Set. Comperes on the night - the fabulous alternative cabaret act Bourgeois & Maurice who grilled contestants on everything from their most hated celebrity to most embarrassing moment, revealing a lot more than a vintage corset in the process.

The next ball will be held at the Rivoli on Saturday 8 May!

Kittens,

The good people at Lastminute.com tell me that there are a few remaining tickets for the Grand Vintage Ball & Vintage Attire Pageant this Saturday. Why is this? Do you not want to shake your body like a horny little pony to tunes from the 20's to the 80's?Do you not want to have a vintage makeover by Nina's Hair Parlour or enter the pageant? Or is it that you're not sure about seeing the fantabulous Bourgeois & Maurice, the She Set or Julian J Smith (pictured), who'll be hot footing it across town to do a set after showing at London Fashion Week? I'm confused? Edith, put the kettle on…

THE GRAND VINTAGE BALL & VINTAGE ATTIRE PAGEANT - SATURDAY 26 SEPTEMBER 2009

The first ever Grand Vintage Ball will be a night of glam music, mindboggling feats of derring-do and decadence.

Whilst the powdered preening pansies fight it out at London Fashion week, to see styles plundered from the past, the event will show the real sartorial creativity and design London has to offer.

Just like music sampling, which involves rifling through the past with scant regard for periods, styles and eras, the ball will be a non purist homage to the past.

Held in the sumptuous environs of the Rivoli Ballroom in Brockley, South East London, the night is the perfect opportunity for the Retrorati and the Sartorial Intelligentsia to don their best vintage and retro outfits and enter the ultimate Vintage Attire Pageant, where they can be crowned Best In Show.

Contest categories include:
Best outfits from the 20’s to the 80’s
Dictators wife
Retrosexual
Best afro
Best English Gentleman
Best moustache

Disc jockeys include designer extraordinaire Julian Smith playing Jive, Rock ‘n’ Roll, 1970s Glam Stomp, 80s New Romantic Pop, Patriotic English, Studio 54, Motown, Punk and 90’s nonsense

When: Saturday 26 September 2009

Where: Rivoli Ballroom, Brockley, London SE4 2BY

Time: Doors: 8pm -1am

Tickets: £14.99 plus booking fee from www.ticketweb.co.uk
